Agra has a vast hotel sector, but only a small percentage of hotels are considered
The overwhelming majority of hotels are small traditional outlets that provide inexpensive
accommodations for travelers and source all of their food locally. There are over hotels and resorts
in India that constitute the “organized” or modern sector.
Nevertheless, as foreign and domestic travel
has increased in recent years, the number of modern hotels that carry at least small amounts of imported
foods on their menus is on the rise. Hotels are able to obtain a special license that enables them to
purchase food items (and other items such as equipment and furniture) subject to their foreign
